The Bioko Island Malaria Control Program (BIMCP) is a five-year, $27M program, funded by Marathon Oil Corporation, which seeks to substantially reduce morbidity and mortality caused by malaria on Bioko Island. The BIMCP’s interventions are centered on indoor residual spraying, distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated mosquito nets, case management, and monitoring and evaluation. The project includes a substantial investment in human resources development and a strong commitment to capacity-building and integration. The objective will be to prepare the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Equatorial Guinea to assume full responsibility for the management of the BIMCP’s malaria control activities. MCDI implements the BIMCP together with partner organizations including Yale University, Texas A&M University’s AgriLife Research, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

Overview of Position:

The Case Management Officer (CMO) is responsible for the development, implementation, technical backstopping and coordination of MCDI’s activities in the field of malaria case management at hospital and health center levels and at the patient and/or caretaker level. <![CDATA[Field Operations Entomology Officer]]> http://www.empleoguinea.com/display-job/49827/Field-Operations-Entomology-Officer.html

Overview of Position
This position is based on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. It is intended to provide practical experience to a graduate who has recently completed his/her studies and wishes to begin or expand his/her field experience. The position is not intended for research work; however, as an incentive, arrangements can be made so that the individual has access to entomological data for a thesis or dissertation work once the in-country assignment was completed (i.e., using the routine entomological data the project collects; with the usual coordination/agreement with involved parties).

The Field Operations Entomology Officer (FOEO) works under the direct supervision of and supports the work of the Medical Entomology Officer, who works out of the country part of the year. When the Medical Entomology Officer is present, the FOEO will, under his guidance, participate in the oversight and provision of technical assistance to all in-country vector control activities, including (1) vector monitoring, insecticide resistance monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance, (2) all activities associated with the distribution and keep-up of long lasting insecticide treated nets (LLITNs) and environmental management, and (3) as required, technical and operational support for information, education and communication (IEC) activities related to vector control and transmission prevention and indoor residual spraying (IRS). The FOEO will also mentor, supervise and provide continuing education to the national Entomology Officer and other pertinent staffs from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

When the Medical Entomology Officer is out of country, the FOEO will assume primary
responsibility for these activities, under the oversight of the Chief of Party.
